Peregrine Falcon

2013-07-24 영주산 Youngjusan 99

I saw a couple of Peregrine Falcons (매 'mae' in Korean) flying around Youngjusan (영주산) the other day. They were awesome.  It seemed like they were hunting, but sometimes fighting. My birder friend, Matt, told me that we're lucky in Jeju in that they're the only place in Korea where they are relatively widespread.  He also said they're the fastest animal in the world (in a dive).

I've always read about these birds, but I've yet to see one.  A lot of rock climbing cliffs in the US are closed due to Peregrine Falcon nesting, so it was a treat to see them close up.
